Free Capybara Christmas Advent Activity Sheet (24 Days)

Our new Advent Activity Sheet is a simple, screen-free way to count down to Christmas. Each of the 24 boxes holds one small activity: coloring a specific page from this collection, learning a capybara fact, drawing, crafting, or doing something kind for someone. When your child finishes the day’s task, they color in the number. By December 24 the whole sheet is full of color, and you have a stack of finished capybara art to hang up or give away.

Capybara Christmas advent activity sheet printable with 24 daily activities

The activities are deliberately short (5 to 20 minutes) so they fit into busy December evenings. Some days point to a page in this set, such as the snowman, cookie or Christmas tree designs, while others are open-ended, like drawing your family as capybaras or finding South America on a map, where wild capybaras live. If you want more drawing practice for those days, our step-by-step how to draw a capybara tutorial is a perfect companion.

Coloring Tips by Age

Ages 3 to 5: Choose the pages with big, simple shapes, like the capybara in a Santa hat or the capybara hugging a gift. Chunky crayons and washable markers work best, and it is completely fine if the colors go outside the lines. Talk about the picture while they color: what is the capybara holding, and what color should its scarf be?

Ages 6 to 9: Kids this age love the busier scenes, such as the Christmas tree, cookies and candy pages. Colored pencils let them add patterns to sweaters and wrapping paper. Challenge them to give every present a different design, or to add falling snow and a background of their own.

Ages 10 and up (and adults): Try shading. Capybara fur looks great with a light brown base, a slightly darker brown along the back and under the chin, and a few short pencil strokes to suggest texture. Gel pens add sparkle to ornaments and lights. Many adults tell us that a capybara coloring page and a cup of tea is the calmest part of their holiday week, and given that capybaras are famous for being the most chill animal around, that seems fitting.

Capybara Christmas Color Palette Ideas

  • Classic Christmas: warm brown capybara, red hat and scarf, evergreen tree, gold star and ornaments.
  • Snowy Nordic: brown capybara with an ice-blue, white and silver scarf, pale gray sky and white snowflakes.
  • Candy Cane Pastel: soft pink, mint green and cream, perfect for the candy and cookie pages.
  • Japanese Winter Onsen: add steam and bright orange yuzu fruit, inspired by the famous capybara hot springs in Japan and the reason capybaras are pictured with oranges on their heads.

7 Ways to Use Finished Coloring Pages

  1. Ornaments: cut out the capybara, glue it to thin cardboard, punch a hole and add ribbon.
  2. Christmas cards: fold a sheet of card stock in half and glue a colored capybara on the front.
  3. Gift tags: print a page at 50% scale, color the small capybaras and tie them to presents.
  4. Wrapping paper: tile several colored pages onto plain brown kraft paper.
  5. Window gallery: tape finished pages to a window or door for a December art display.
  6. Placemats: laminate a page for a holiday breakfast placemat.
  7. A gift for grandparents: frame the best page with the child’s name and the year.

Ideas for Teachers and Holiday Parties

Capybara pages work well in the classroom because they mix art with a little science. Before coloring, share three quick facts: capybaras are the world’s largest rodents, they are excellent swimmers with slightly webbed feet, and they live in groups near water in South America. Our capybara facts page and our capybara FAQ give you plenty of talking points. For a party, set up a coloring station with the Advent sheet, a pile of pages and a box of crayons, then let guests vote for the “most festive capybara.”

Why Capybaras Make Perfect Christmas Characters

Reindeer and penguins usually get the holiday spotlight, but capybaras have quietly become one of the most-loved winter mascots online. Their calm faces, round bodies and relaxed attitude make them easy to draw and even easier to love. In Japan, zoos celebrate the winter solstice by giving capybaras warm yuzu baths, and photos of steaming, sleepy capybaras with citrus floating around them go viral every December. That cozy image is a big part of why a capybara in a Santa hat feels so natural.

Capybaras are also famously social. In the wild they live in family groups and tolerate birds, monkeys and other animals sitting right on their backs, which makes them a gentle symbol of friendship and togetherness, exactly the spirit of the season. Talking about this with kids while they color turns a simple activity into a small nature lesson. If they ask where capybaras live, our guide to where capybaras live has kid-friendly answers and maps.

Plan a cozy coloring night: print five or six pages, put on some quiet holiday music, make hot cocoa, and set out crayons, pencils and a few glitter pens. Let everyone pick one page, then swap halfway through so each picture ends up with two artists. It is a simple, budget-friendly family tradition, and the finished pages make sweet keepsakes to date and save each year.
