Quick answer: The best capybara plush for most people is the Jellycat Clyde Capybara ($50 / £40) if you can catch a restock. The best value pick is the realistic Wild Republic Cuddlekins Capybara ($21.99, 12 in). For a classic Squishmallow, look for Lijjian, the brown capybara. If you want weight or warmth, try Hugimals Cam the Capybara (4.5 lb, $59.99) or the microwaveable Capybara Warmies ($29.99). Going giant? The Wild Republic Cuddlekins Eco Jumbo Capybara is 30 inches long.

Capybara plush toys have gone from novelty to a whole shelf of their own. There are realistic zoo-shop capybaras, squishy kawaii capybaras, weighted capybaras for anxious sleepers and 2-foot giants. We’ve grown this list from five picks to 21, added the big names (Jellycat, Squishmallows, Build-A-Bear, Wild Republic, Douglas, Warmies and Hugimals) and put sizes, prices and where to buy each one in a single comparison table.

How we chose: We haven’t tested these toys hands-on. Every branded pick below comes from the brand’s own product page, and we checked each price, size and stock status on October 20, 2026. Prices are in US dollars unless noted, and they change often, especially around Black Friday, so check before you buy. Where something was out of stock when we checked, we say so. Best Overall: Jellycat Clyde Capybara

$50 (US) / £40 (UK) / €50 (EU) at time of writing. Out of stock on all three official stores when we checked.

Clyde is the capybara plush most collectors want. Jellycat describes him as going “through life somewhere between unhurried and horizontal,” which sums up the appeal. His official product dimensions are 8.3 × 6.7 × 9.4 inches, with a sitting height of about 8 inches, so he’s a comfortable lap size rather than a giant. He has a two-tone chocolate coat, and buyer reviews on Jellycat’s site praise how closely he resembles a real capybara.

The catch is availability. Clyde sells out in “drops,” and he was listed as out of stock on Jellycat US, Jellycat UK and Jellycat EU on October 20, 2026. Use the “notify me” button on the official page rather than paying a reseller markup. Watch out for fake stores: lookalike websites advertising “official” Jellycat at huge discounts are common, so buy from jellycat.com or a stockist you know.

Smaller option: The Clyde Capybara Bag Charm ($30) is a clip-on mini Clyde for backpacks and keys. It was also out of stock when we checked.

Best Squishmallow: Lijjian the Capybara

MSRP $19.99 for the 14-inch size on the official store (out of stock when we checked). Also sold in other sizes at major retailers.

Lijjian is the original brown capybara Squishmallow, with a tan fuzzy belly and sleepy closed eyes. Jazwares’ official listing gives her collector number as 2213 and her “Squishdate” (birthday) as June 20, 2023. Collector databases list her in sizes from 2.5-inch minis and clips up to 16 inches, plus seasonal editions such as a Valentine’s version with heart cheeks and one with a tangerine on her head. Other capybara Squishmallows include Cyril, a 10-inch dark teal capybara ($14.99 MSRP), and Marcia, an 8-inch maroon one ($12.99 MSRP). All of them were out of stock on the official Jazwares store when we checked, so check toy retailers and pharmacies, which stock rotating Squishmallow assortments.

Best for Kids: Build-A-Bear Capybara

$32 in the US and £26 in the UK at time of writing. Listed as in stock for delivery.

Build-A-Bear’s Capybara Stuffed Animal is 11 inches tall (28 cm on the UK site) in medium brown. Kids can add a sound, a scent and outfits, which makes it a fun experience gift if there’s a workshop nearby. Two more options from the same range:

  • Mini Beans Capybara ($10): a 6-inch bean-filled mini that Build-A-Bear suggests pairing with the full-size capybara, since baby capybaras sometimes ride on their parents’ backs.
  • Giant Capybara ($98): a 24-inch online exclusive. It was listed as “currently not available online” when we checked, and Build-A-Bear notes it can’t take a sound or scent.

Best Realistic Capybara Plush: Wild Republic Cuddlekins

$21.99 for the 12-inch size on Wild Republic’s US site. A$34.95 on its Australian site.

If you want a plush that actually looks like a capybara, Wild Republic is the brand to know. Its Cuddlekins Capybara is a 12-inch realistic design, and the company says it meets US (CPSIA) and EU (EN71) toy safety standards. The Australian listing adds that it’s bead-free, surface washable and stuffed with fill made from recycled water bottles. It’s a good choice for kids who are into real animals, and it pairs nicely with our capybara facts guide.

Wild Republic makes a whole family of capybaras, so there’s one for almost any budget:

  • Ecokins Mini Capybara (8 in, $12.99): the best budget pick, made with recycled materials.
  • Mom & Baby Capybara (9 in, $21.99): the baby comes attached and can be detached at home for pretend play. It’s lovely for younger children learning about baby capybaras.
  • Knitkins Capybara (8 in, $16.99): a knitted-look capybara with embroidered eyes that looks good on a shelf.
  • Poppykins Mini Capybara (7.5 in, $24.99): it has a poppable fidget panel on its belly, which makes it a good desk or calm-down buddy.

Best Giant Capybara Plush: Wild Republic Cuddlekins Eco Jumbo

$79.99 for 30 inches on Wild Republic’s US site.

The Cuddlekins Eco Jumbo Capybara is the biggest capybara plush we found from a major brand. It’s 30 inches, with the same realistic design as the regular Cuddlekins, fabric and fill made from recycled water bottles, embroidered organic-cotton eyes and a bead-free build. It’s cheaper than Build-A-Bear’s 24-inch Giant Capybara and was available to order when we checked. Real capybaras grow to about 106–134 cm (42–53 in) long, so even this jumbo is a bit smaller than life size. See how big capybaras get.

Best Weighted Capybara Plush: Hugimals Cam the Capybara

$59.99 at Hugimals, listed as available when we checked.

Cam the Capybara is the capybara in Hugimals’ line of weighted plush. Each Hugimal weighs 4.5 lb. The weight comes from non-toxic glass beads in a removable insert, spread through the body, head and limbs rather than lumped in one place, and the outer plush is machine washable once the insert is out. Hugimals labels Cam for ages 2 and up and markets the range for kids, teens and adults who find deep-pressure weight calming. That makes it a thoughtful gift for a stressed student or anyone who likes something heavy to hug.

Best Heated Capybara Plush: Capybara Warmies

$29.99 at Warmies US.

Capybara Warmies is a lighter weighted plush (1.5 lb, 7.5 × 8.5 × 11.5 in) that you can heat in the microwave for up to 90 seconds or chill in the freezer. It’s filled with natural grain and dried French lavender. Warmies says it gives off warmth for up to two hours. It’s surface-clean only, so don’t put it in the washing machine. Warmies ships within the continental US. It’s a cozy match for an animal famous for its winter hot baths in Japan.

Best Super-Soft Capybara Plush: Douglas Chattie

$23.45 (10 in), $39.95 (15 in) and $15.95 (7 in mini) on Douglas’s site.

Douglas sells its capybara Chattie in several “soft” versions with an ultra-fuzzy coat and a sleepy, droopy-eyed face. The Chattie Soft Capybara is 10 inches long, lies in a loaf pose and is machine washable. The Chattie Super Soft is a bigger, 15-inch version (surface wash only), and the Mini Chattie is 7 inches tall and sits up with its paws raised. All three are rated for 24 months and up. Douglas also sells through toy and gift shops (its site lists Canadian retailers too), so look for it locally.

Where to Buy Capybara Plush in the US, UK and Canada

  • United States: All of the brands above have US online stores or US stockists. Warmies says it ships within the continental US only.
  • United Kingdom: Jellycat’s UK store lists Clyde at £40, and Build-A-Bear UK sells the 28 cm Capybara Soft Toy for £26.
  • Canada: Douglas lists Canadian retailers on its site. We couldn’t confirm current Canadian prices for the plush above, so check local stockists and the brands’ Canadian storefronts.
  • Australia: Wild Republic’s Australian store sells the 12-inch Cuddlekins Capybara for A$34.95.

How to Choose a Capybara Plush

  • Realistic or cute? Wild Republic Cuddlekins looks like the real animal. Jellycat, Douglas and Squishmallows are stylized and cuddlier.
  • Size: Mini (5–8 in) for stockings and backpacks, standard (10–14 in) for everyday hugs, jumbo (24–30 in) as a pillow or statement gift.
  • Washability: If it’s for a young child, machine-washable options such as Douglas Chattie Soft or Hugimals (with the weight insert removed) are easier to live with. Warmies and several minis are surface-clean only.
  • Weight and heat: Weighted and microwaveable plush are great for adults and older kids. Follow the brand’s heating instructions and age guidance carefully.
  • Safety for babies: Check age labels, and remember that the American Academy of Pediatrics advises keeping all soft toys out of a baby’s sleep area (AAP safe sleep guide).
  • Buy from official stores: Popular plush, especially Jellycat and Squishmallows, is widely counterfeited. Fakes may not meet safety standards.
